Arabic Editor for Syriastories website

 Institute for War & Peace Reporting is an independent nonprofit organization that works with media and civil society to promote positive change in conflict zones, closed societies, and countries in transition around the world.

In that regard, IWPR seeks to hire an Arabic Editor for its Syria stories online platform. The Editor will work directly with the Senior Media Specialist and a large group of Syrian women and reporters, in collaboration with the Syria Programs Team, to produce high quality and high impact stories and other written materials to engage a range of audiences, from experts and policymakers to journalists, influencers, and the general public. 

 

Scope of Work:

As such, the Arabic Editor requirements include:

 

    1. Oversee commissioning and production of stories for Syriastories.net on Civil Society in Syria
    2. Assist in outreach of Syrian journalists and brainstorm to choose subjects that are relevant to WEPS & AJAD
    3. Improve editorial structure and contribute new story ideas
    4. Calculate the percentage increase of news quality on content analysis of first draft and final draft stories once a month, or upon request as needed
    5. Copy, edit and proof-read Women Blogs & Syria Stories
    6. Copy, edit and proof-read Arabic deliverables as needed
    7. Assist in meeting the targets and request stories accordingly

 

Qualifications of Successful Individual/Company:

The Arabic Editor should hold the following minimum qualifications:

 

  • University degree in journalism, communication, international relations, political or social sciences, human rights, or comparable academic preparation.
  • At least seven (7) years of progressively advanced experience working in journalism in the region, preferably with NGOs
  • Proven familiarity with the work of Syria and Syrian citizen journalists and have an excellent understanding of the conflict issues and community security
  • Advanced knowledge of social media and journalism editing
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English
  • Connection to Syrian journalists is an asset
