The Institute for War & Peace Reporting, a respected international NGO dedicated to strengthening independent media and civil society, is seeking a local legal representative for its Lebanon branch. The lawyer or law firm would advise IWPR on various relevant legal issues, and when necessary represent the organization, including in court proceedings if necessary. Most of the work and correspondence could be done remotely, though occasional visits (typically once or twice a month) to our Beirut office would be required. Additional visits to government institutions, courts, and/ or legal offices will sometimes be necessary. This would be a part-time, as-needed role, beginning February 1 and likely running through at least October 2018, pending funding.

The registration process in Lebanon
Staff contracts
Taxes
Compliance with Lebanese law
Government relations
Any other legal issues encountered by the organization
Qualifications
A juries doctor or equivalent
Authorization to practice law in Lebanon
Previous experience representing or advising INGOs in Lebanon
Strong knowledge of legal issues that INGOs in Lebanon face, particularly regarding registration and compliance with Lebanese law
