Trainer and Coach

About the project

As part of a project that aims to strengthen local capacities for social stability in Tripoli and the Bekaa, International Alert is working with two groups of 15 Lebanese and Syrian young women and men – one in Tripoli and one in Central Bekaa. The groups have been trained on non-violent communication, understanding conflict and violence, basic conflict analysis and local advocacy, have participated in dialogue sessions and implemented local initiatives. As a next step in their journey, they will be training other youth in their areas on skills for wellbeing, communication, problem solving and understanding identity, gender and power. The youth trainers will be using an existing online course to assist them in the delivery of face-to-face sessions for peers during the summer months.

In preparation for the trainings, Alert is planning a three-day Training for Trainers (ToT) during the month of June to equip the youth with the skills to organise and facilitate trainings to other Lebanese and Syrian youth. Alert has developed a ToT outline and seeks a qualified Consultant to lead the TOT with assistance from Alert’s team. The Consultant will also accompany and coach the youth trainers during the roll out of the trainings in Tripoli and the Bekaa.

Objectives of the consultancy

The overall objective of the consultancy is to support the youth groups in delivering peer trainings on wellbeing and 21st century skills.

The specific objectives are:

  1. To plan and hold a 3-day ToT for a group of 15 youth.
  2. To coach the youth in delivering trainings to peers in Tripoli and the Bekaa.

Methodology

The TOT aims to prepare the youth to deliver the trainings. The specific objectives for the TOT are:

  1. To plan the logistics of the peer trainings: outreach, criteria for enrolling youth to take part in the sessions, scheduling sessions, venues
  2. To plan the content of the peer trainings: developing session outlines and exercises, working in teams of two youth trainers, understanding how to use the online course as one of the learning tools
  3. To develop/ practice key skills, including designing a session, facilitation skills, presentation skills, dealing with different types of participants and evaluating a session.

Following the TOT, the 15 youth trainers will work in pairs or individually to deliver trainings to a total of 4 groups of 15 participants in the Bekaa, and 4 groups of 15 participants in Tripoli. Each group will attend a cycle of 6 (weekly) sessions of 3-4 hours each.

The youth trainers will be supported by the selected Trainer/ Coach to ensure they plan and deliver high quality sessions and continue to develop their skills. The Trainer/ Coach is expected to attend at least 2 sessions for each trainer/trainers’ team, provide support and constructive feedback to the youth trainers.
