About the project
As part of a project that aims to strengthen local capacities for social stability in Tripoli and the Bekaa, International Alert is working with three groups of 60 Lebanese and Syrian young women and men – one in Tripoli and two in Bekaa. The groups need to trained on non-violent communication, understanding conflict and violence, basic conflict analysis and local advocacy, and participate in dialogue sessions and implement local initiatives.
In preparation for the trainings, Alert is planning a four-day training during the month of July for each of the youth groups to equip them with the skills to organise and facilitate trainings to other Lebanese and Syrian youth.
Objectives of the consultancy
The overall objective of the consultancy is to support the youth groups in leading dialogue sessions on priority issues identified in their communities and implement conflict and gender sensitive initiatives that enhance social cohesion.
The specific objectives are:
- To plan and hold a 4-day training for three groups of 20 youth each.
- To coach the youth in implementing community initiatives in Tripoli and the Bekaa areas.
Methodology
The training aims to prepare the youth to lead on dialogue sessions and implement community initiatives, in partnership with already established dialogue groups. The specific objectives for the training and coaching assignment are:
- To plan the content of the dialogue trainings in partnership with International Alert team.
- To develop a coaching plan with youth for implementation of community initiatives.
- Deliver around 12 coaching sessions to youth dialogue groups to design and implement community initiatives.
Deliverables
The Consultant is expected to produce 5 deliverables:
- Deliverable 1: A detailed training agenda (participants version and facilitators version), based on an inception meeting with Alert and review of documents.
- Deliverable 2: Training followed by a training report.
- Deliverable 3: A detailed design for the coaching sessions.
- Deliverable 4: Coaching sessions.
- Deliverable 5: Final report on coaching process with recommendations.

Consultant profile
- At least 5 years of experience in conducting training for youth in the fields of peace building, life skills, communication, facilitation and similar topics. Experience with coaching is strongly recommended.
- In-depth knowledge of the Lebanese context with regards to social stability and social cohesion, with a focus on inter-community dynamics.
- Experience with and understanding of the local context in Central Bekaa and Tripoli.
- Professional and educational background in international relations, international development, diplomacy or peacebuilding.
- Proficiency in English and Arabic and ability to conduct interviews and focus group discussions in Arabic.
- Cultural sensitivity and commitment to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism, including following data protection guidelines.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Education degree: MA
Experience required:
- 5-10 years
