Consultant To Work On Projects Related To The Syria Crisis

 Purpose of Assignment The purpose of this assignment is to lead the implementation and coordination of projects related to the Syria crisis. This includes a large peacebuilding and education project covering Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. The project involves working with Syrian partner organisations and the role will involve building and maintaining effective working relationships with partners and external stakeholders, overseeing the timely implementation of activities and supporting research and advocacy. Duties and Responsibilities 1.     Project Implementation and Coordination Maintain and oversee the execution of a project workplan, covering activities in Turkey and Syria; Monitor and ensure quality control of activities taking place in Turkey; Engage with key government and non-government interlocutors, including donors and peacebuilding agencies, through individual meetings and through project activities; Support project research efforts and contribute to project advocacy and outreach; Support logistics and undertake event management duties, as required.   2.     Project Design, Monitoring and Evaluation Collect relevant  information to feed into the monitoring and evaluation of the project and assist in preparing donor reports and project completion reports, including financial reports, in coordination with partners and colleagues; Monitor project progress against impact indicators and take part in adjusting indicators and activities if necessary; Contribute and develop ideas for new projects, building upon the impact achieved by existing projects; Disseminate findings of ongoing monitoring and any lessons learned internally and externally.   3.     Budget and Grant Management   Receive financial data from partners and review for variances to avoid overspending or under spending; Ensure timely information flow between Alert and the partner organisation; Create and maintain a project filing system, on-line and hard copy (when appropriate); Ensure the effective recording, documentation, and filing of project activities, internal and external project meetings   4. Contributing to Alert’s organisational processes and strategies Contribute to team-wide communications and knowledge management, and participate in organisation-wide events and discussions on related topics/projects; Represent Alert in Southern Turkey, and support exploratory feasibility studies regarding the possible need to establish a base there; Any other tasks as may be reasonably required.   Travel requirements This post is based in Turkey, with possible travel to London and Lebanon for coordination and information-sharing meetings. It will not require travel to Syria.     ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Talents The skills, qualifications and experience listed below are important, but we believe that to be great  in this role you are likely, first and foremost, to be exceptionally organised, flexible, and able to maintain a positive attitude to your work even when under stress. You will be proactive with a strong sense of initiative and ask questions as they arise. You will be meticulous about details but also be able to step back and see the bigger picture. You will have research experience and excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).   A post graduate degree in a relevant subject At least three years’ experience in a project implementation role Demonstrable practical and theoretical understanding of conflict and peacebuilding issues Proven rigorous attention to detail Excellent inter-personal, communication and presentation skills (oral and written) Computer literate, in particular Microsoft office and online file sharing programmes. Experience of undertaking research in conflict-affected contexts and producing written outputs A clear commitment to the mission and vision of International Alert Fluency in Arabic and English   DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS Fluency in Turkish Practical experience of budget management Practical experience of monitoring and evaluation Experience of project communications and advocacy Experience of project design and fundraising
