PURPOSE
• The Emergency Room Nurse, as part of the ICRC Health team, serves in the Emergency Department of Tripoli Governmental Hospital TGH promoting and ensuring high quality of care that meets national and international standards.
• S/he is representing the ICRC in the TGH Emergency Department ensuring in smooth and efficient cooperation with the TGH Team, emergency patients access to and continuum of health care.
• S/he supports, coaches and builds the capacity of TGH emergency department health staff in their specific and general nursing care, meeting departmental goals and ICRC objectives.
• S/he contributes to a capacity and training strategy including guidelines, rules & regulations and promotes their practical implementations to improve the clinical management of patients and emergency preparedness.
• S/he is establishing a safe and conducive working environment in the Emergency Department, focusing on infection prevention and control, hygiene, patient safety and non-violent communication, even under challenging conditions with limited resources
MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree/diploma in nursing or equivalent (minimum 3 years course)
• Registered nurse with a valid license to practice in Lebanon.
• 2 to 4 years overall work experience in a hospital, include 1 to 2 years’ practice preferably in a general, orthopedic, trauma, pediatric, ER or maternity.
• Previous international humanitarian and/or development experience will be an asset Experience within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement will be an asset
• Training in orthopedic, trauma, pediatric or maternity an asset.
• Very good communication skills
• Team work spirit
• Patient centered care approach
• Fluent English (written and oral).
• Computer literacy.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborates with TGH team in the facilitation of access and continuum of health care, if applicable respecting ICRC pathways for vulnerable emergency patients.
• Ensures smooth and efficient cooperation with the relevant ICRC and TGH counterparts in the Emergency Department and provides relevant support to both internal and external partners including contribution in audits, activities on chart or further activities agreed on with the TGH Emergency Head Nurse.
• Follows the measurable goals of correct triage procedures, patient flow and timely treatment.
• Promotes and ensures high quality specific and general nursing care and clinical management meeting national and international standards.
• Establishes a safe patient environment by implementing infection prevention and control measures, hygiene standards and a concept for patient safety regularly audited and updated (eg safe medication administration)
• S/he contributes to a safe and conducive working environment in the ER, focusing on non-violent communication, even under challenging conditions.
• S/he builds the capacity of the health staff in TGH ER by supporting and coaching them in their daily performance.
• Contributes to the ER capacity and training strategy including monitoring and lessons learnt meeting departmental goals and ICRC objectives, focusing on acute trauma care.
• Conduct a weekly case review or educational activity directly related to ER.
• Promotes staff training on the medical equipment available in ER and they use it properly and organize maintenance.
• Supports in the development and the practical implementation of rules & regulations, SOP’s and guidelines to improve the clinical management of emergency patients.
• Makes sure that limited resources of drugs and consumables available are used rationally and supplies are reordered on time. Follow up on the inventory medication and emergency stock.
• Collects accurate data through the timely completion and filing of predefined patient/hospital-related documents.
• Participates effectively on the emergency-preparedness and response measures of the Emergency department and the entire hospital (contingency plan), including surveys and drills.
• Contributes to any other activities, which may be considered necessary by the respective line managers.
• The employee might be required to work overtime in line with the needs in the ER.
• The employee might be required to work on weekends or public holidays.
