Engineer For Water & Habitat

The main purpose of the position is to implement and monitor ICRC’s Water and Habitat activities in Ein el Helwe and other Palestinian communities. The WatHab Engineer is based in ICRC’s Sub Delegation in Tyr, and spends most of his/her time in ICRC’s antenna office in Ein el Helwe, in regular contact with beneficiaries and stakeholders.   Minimum Required Knowledge and Experience University Degree in Engineering or construction management Two to four years’ work experience in a similar function Experience in the humanitarian or development sector a plus Experience in monitoring construction sites and managing contractors is highly desirable Shelter rehabilitation and reconstruction is an asset Experience in conducting surveys in similar working environment is an asset Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate and manage a diverse array of activities and stakeholders Report writing skills and computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets Mother tongue Arabic, fluent in written and spoken English Ability to handle sensitive information with all required confidentiality Other Requirements Problem solver, dynamic, and flexible Motivated by humanitarian work Willing to work in challenging environment such as camps Showing sensitivity to operating in a complex camp environment with a multitude of stakeholders Willing to take additional tasks if need arises Strong capability of integrating in a team Ability to work independently Project assessment, planning and implementation Elaborates precise background information, bills of quantity, drawings, time schedule, work specification, cost estimates. Designs hydraulic systems (hydraulic and civil calculations CAD drawings, cost estimates, schedules, etc) and/or follows designs executed by contractors. Prepares in coordination with the WatHab responsible requests for tenders, draft contracts, selection tables, etc... Reporting and administrative activities Follows internal reporting procedures and filing, and manages relevant internal paperwork and databases. Checks quantities of works implemented and prepares measurements sheets, follow-up on payments in coordination with WatHab responsible, and relevant departments. For procurement, elaborates technical specifications, organises the material deliveries and ensures necessary checking and follow-up of the material, paperwork, etc, in coordination with the Logistics department.
