PURPOSE
S/he formulates research questions, draws up study protocols and supports potential clinical research. As the focal point in his/her area of expertise within the delegation Health team, the Epidemiologist is responsible for developing a meaningful data-collection system (revising patient medical files, designing a database with relevant patient information) and analysing and interpreting data. S/he ensures that medical ethics and patient confidentiality are respected. In case of outbreaks supports surveillance systems.
MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- University Master’s degree in Epidemiology. BS in nursing, MD degree or PHD in Epidemiology is an asset
- 6–10 years’ professional experience in similar fields with minimum of 2 years in research
- Proven track of publications in peer reviewed journals
- Trainings in statistical analysis software.
- Experience with Qualitative research methods will be considered an asset
- Experience in data management and analysis
- Advanced computer skills.
- Fluency in English (written and oral)
- Previous NGO experience is an asset
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- S/he is the focal point for all health-related research activities in the Lebanon Health Department
- S/he is the focal point for all academic interactions both within and outside the country.
- Appraises the patient datasets / medical file / information-gathering system developed so far and recommends changes if required.
- Contributes to developing monitoring tools / indicators per area of activities.
- Trains health employees to run the database and analyse the data.
- Liaises with relevant authorities and ethical boards about the procedures for carrying out clinical and operational research and studies.
- Identifies relevant clinical issues to be researched.
- Together with the Health Coordinator and with the different Health Program / Project Managers, develops hypotheses and research methodology supporting clinical studies relevant to the project.
- Recommends literature review and proposes hypotheses or research questions on the most commonly used search engine.
- Supports Health Departments in case of outbreaks and epidemics.
- Conducts / follows up on clinical research in collaboration with the Health team.
- Fosters an operational research culture within the Health team.
