The Emergency Nurse, as part of the ICRC Health Team, provides nursing care in the different clinical areas of the Emergency Room (ER) in Rafik Hariri University Hospital (RHUH). S/he works in close collaboration with the RHUH ER Department to improve clinical management of adult and paediatric emergency patients.

Together with RHUH and ICRC ER management team, s/he participates in the practical implementation of RHUH institutional and ICRC guidelines and protocols, where available and relevant.

Together with RHUH and ICRC ER management team, s/he ensures the delivery of quality nursing care and hygiene in the ER department, infection control and safe medical practice.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

In close collaboration with RHUH ER team:

Establish and maintain a good working relationship with the Head of ER Department, ER Doctors, ER in-charge nurses, ER nurses and other supportive hospital staff.

Supports ER staff in identifying and initiating improvements within the department.

Provides, promote and maintain a good standard of nursing care, aseptic techniques and hygiene; promotes safe nursing standards and procedures leading to quality of nursing care.

If guidelines and protocols not available, may create them together with the RHUH Nurses.

Provide support and coaching of the nursing team in developing skills to improve the quality of care for the patients in the ER;

Together with RHUH ER and ICRC management team, assesses progress in ER on regular basis by  ensuring accurate and timely data collection and reporting of ER activities;

Triage- monitors patient flow on admission, focusing on triage implementation of financial coverage pathway. Monitor and train on correct ESI assignment;

Ensure collaboration with the ICRC SW, ICRC ER Dr. and RHUH staff to follow the implementation for the pathways of the vulnerable patients in the ER, and to follow up the patients covered by ICRC in ER.

Trauma- with the ICRC and RHUH ER team, implement trauma checklist and train all staff on the use of this tool. Ensure all staff have attended the ERTC course.

Stock- Ensure all essential lifesaving equipment is available. Ensure correct use of supplies and equipment in the ER;

Medications- Participates to the development and implementation of safe medication administration SOP;

Contribute to any other activities, which may be considered necessary by the ICRC Head Nurse.

Profile

Professional diploma or university degree (Registered Diploma)

8 years' nursing experience

Good knowledge of written and spoken English

Good computer skills

Good communication and diplomacy skills

Good analytical skills

Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team
