Context
The ICRC’s Physical Rehabilitation Programme (PRP) is aimed at ensuring access to appropriate physical rehabilitation services, including mobility devices and physiotherapy. ICRC assistance in this area is designed to help create or strengthen high-quality national services and to make them accessible, and sustainable. The ICRC PRP supports people with disabilities worldwide to play a full part in society. This includes facilitating the setting up of small businesses, providing vocational training and promoting sport.
Purpose
The physiotherapist contributes to implementing Physical Rehabilitation activities and agenda under the supervision of the PRP manager, the PRP Team Leader and the ICRC Head of Sub delegation. S/he organizes and coordinates with the partner the Physical Rehabilitation services provision for the persons with physical impairment or disabilities prosthetic, orthotics, mobility aids and physiotherapy in the south and north region of Lebanon. S/he is a full member of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation which ensures patient centered care and works closely with the ICRC health team. S/he manages and updates patient files and treatment records, coordinates with the different academic institutions and follows up various social inclusion activities. S/he will contribute to the mapping including the updates of PRP related actors in the South. S/he support the health department to identify a referral system for PRP services users, and S/he conduct a need assessment at the community level.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Participates in the multidisciplinary consultations for patient assessments and treatment prescriptions with the national clinicians and/or associations. Participates in field trips and links with communities’ level for the PRP outreach activities (eg: Akkar, Wadi Khaled…)
- Conducts disability screening during PRP clinics and diabetic foot management training in collaboration with the health team at the Primary Health Care Caja located in Akhar.
- Organizes, coordinates assessments and treatment appointments with national clinicians and associations
- Helps promote best practice in coordination with the physical rehabilitation team and provides technical capacity building to the staff of the supported Physical Rehabilitation Center based on ICRC guidelines
- Monitors patient’s progresses, and continuity of care planning with respective referral system in the communities’ levels.
- Inform the beneficiary and the caregiver on the importance of the rehabilitation to improve his/her physical situation and the different steps to follow in order to achieve it.
- Updates patient lists and contributes in internal ICRC reporting (including patient management system).
- Ensures the implementation of the ICRC physiotherapy and Ortho-prosthetics standards in collaboration with the respective partners. Contributes to deliver training and coaching based on those guidelines.
- Supporting Social Inclusion through identification among PRP users and referrals that include para-sport activities, micro-economic initiative, cash transfer program and carrier development program.
- Performs initial evaluation of patient and families for vulnerability in relation to ICRC criteria of admission for physical rehabilitation services. Facilitates, educates and refers relatives of vulnerable patients to understand possibilities of financial coverages through humanitarian actors.
- Asses needs of people with disabilities via field assessment, development of a networking (NGOs hospitals...) and develop and consolidate a system of referral for the PRP beneficiaries.
- Screens PRP patients in the Area of Responsibility and coordinates with health department at SD when required the referral for the continuum of care (ex WTTC patients and NCD need).
Certification/ Education required:
- Degree in physiotherapy and a valid license to practice in Lebanon.
- Relevant additional degrees (e.g. public health, acute hospital or rehabilitation techniques) an asset.
- Fluent command of English. French is an asset.
Professional Experience Required:
- 3 to 5 years post-graduate experience and up-to-date knowledge
- Teaching experience and skills are strong asset.
- Experience with INGOs, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are strong assets.
