ICRC is recruiting a Social Worker The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been present in Lebanon since 1967 and has carried out its humanitarian work through different periods of conflict, including Lebanon’s 15-year-long civil war from 1975–1990. We are currently responding to the rapidly growing needs of displaced people fleeing war and violence across the region into Lebanon as well as the local communities hosting them. The ICRC activities on behalf of people affected by war and violence in Lebanon include, but are not limited to, ensuring people affected by conflict can get access to basic health care, services such as water and electricity and restore their economic security, securing humane treatment and conditions for detainees, building respect for the IHL and supporting the families of the missing persons. We are based in Beirut and have offices in Tripoli, Tyr and Zahle. ICRC works in collaboration with Rafik Hariri University Hospital since beginning 2016. The integrated approach and support helps to assure access for vulnerable people to medical care. ICRC is present in different departments as the ER and a medical/surgical department. Job Purpose: The Social Worker will be working in Rafic HarirI University Hospital (RHUH). He/ she works with people to support them through difficult times and to ensure that vulnerable people, children and adults have access to health care. In addition, the social worker provides support in enabling service users to help themselves, in assisting the hierarchy in running support or operational activities for specific sectors and in maintaining contacts with external interlocutors. Moreover, the social worker contributes to the implementation and monitoring of specific projects / programs within the department. Your profile: Bachelor degree in Social Worker( specialization in medical social worker is a plus) 3 - 5 years’ work experience in Social Work with refugees or vulnerable medical people (Having an experience in a medical context is a plus) Very good knowledge of spoken and written English. (French is a plus) Very good computer skills (Microsoft office) Good communication skills Good analytical skills Good teamwork skills Function description: Performs initial screening and evaluation of patient and families for vulnerability in relation to ICRC criteria of admission to RHUH project to assess and review their situation; Facilitates, educates and refers relatives of vulnerable patients to understand possibilities of financial coverages through humanitarian actors. Collaborates with members of the health team, the patient/family to assure patients’ psychosocial and socioeconomics needs are addressed wherever possible; Collaborates with hospital administration for the vulnerable patients in relation to ICRC admission criteria. Educates patients and families on the roles of health care team members; assists patients and families in communicating with one another and to members of the health care team;  Interprets- translates information related to medical and surgical treatment plan to patients and other health care team members; Coordinates patient discharge and continuity of care planning with respective health care team members and other humanitarian actors or agencies; Liaises with Senior Social Worker/ Hospital Project Manager for decisions related to patients’ admissions to ICRC Emergency project at RHUH; Recognizes patients with underlying mental illness, provides and/ or makes necessary referrals for ICRC mental health psychological support delegate or to other NGOs; What we offer: Working for one of the main humanitarian organization.
