Organizational Context

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 192-member National Societies. The overall aim of the IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” The IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises. The IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (Movement), together with its member National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The work of the IFRC is guided by the following fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. The IFRC is led by its Secretary General, and has its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Headquarters are organized into three main Divisions: (i) National Society Development and Operations Coordination; (ii) Global Relations, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization; and (iii) Management Policy, Strategy and Corporate Services. The IFRC has five regional offices in Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The IFRC also has country cluster delegation and country delegations throughout the world. Together, the Geneva Headquarters and the field structure (regional, cluster and country) comprise the IFRC Secretariat. The IFRC’s MENA regional office is based in Beirut, Lebanon and covers 17 countries with 7 country offices in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Jordan, and Libya (in Tunisia temporarily due to security considerations) and 2 cluster offices for North Africa (excluding Libya) in Tunisia and for the Gulf countries in the United Arab Emirates. MENA 17 member National Societies are namely: the Algerian Red Crescent, Bahrain Red Crescent Society, Egyptian Red Crescent, Emirates Red Crescent, Iraqi Red Crescent Society, Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan National Red Crescent Society, Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Lebanese Red Cross, Libyan Red Crescent Society, Moroccan Red Crescent, Palestine Red Crescent Society, Qatar Red Crescent Society, Saudi Red Crescent Authority, Syrian Arab Red Crescent, Tunisian Red Crescent, and the Yemen Red Crescent Society.

Job Purpose

To assist in administrative activities and delivering efficient service and support to the administrative department. In return, the intern will benefit from this experience by learning how to manage building services, how to implement a plan and project within the administrative department in coordination with other departments and colleagues from the region, and the basic concept of procurement processes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and use tracking sheets for maintenance and cleaning services follow-up in IFRC’s main regional office.
  • Conduct basic admin. procurement processes with the support of admin. colleagues.
  • Update and enhance the office’s inventory checklist.
  • Support in unifying the inventory checklist templates in the region’s country offices.
  • Support in filing and archiving processes within the administration department.

Education

The intern must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme from a recognized university in one of the following areas: Administration, business management and other related areas - Required. The intern must have attended courses in the last 12 months and have completed at least two years undergraduate studies.
