Intern, Climate Research

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will carry out the following specific tasks: 

Lead the Climate Change Narrative for the MENA region
•    Develop evidence-based climate change narrative for the MENA region, highlighting vulnerabilities and risks faced by communities
•    Devise recommendations for National Societies that are in line with the findings of the narrative, that would help enhance communities’ resilience
•    Document progress building on the baseline study on climate and resilience landscape, priorities, and opportunities in the MENA region.
•    Map out best practices, case studies and lessons learned relating to climate change, eco-DRR, NBS and resilience building both internally (RCRC) and externally.
•    Support the production of a position paper on the impact of the climate change on the humanitarian situation in the region and the proposed scope and role of the RCRC reducing, preparing, and addressing these impacts.

Support the development of awareness facts and figures:
•    Work hand-in-hand with Climate and Resilience Early Warning Awareness Intern to improve the Risk Watch messages and recommendations to address gaps stemming from the narrative
•    Produce awareness materials for campaigns to increase public understanding of environmental and climate-related issues and how to address them, based on the findings of the narrative

Other tasks:
•    Support in dialogues related to climate smart resilience.
•    Support in the planning of the activities together with the Climate and Resilience team.
•    Support the development of project proposals for Disaster Risk Management and Climate Action toward to increase the Resilience of communities, and establish appropriate planning, monitoring, and reporting procedures.
•    Support IFRC MENA Climate & Resilience Senior Officer in any other tasks, including capacity development...etc.

Education

Engaged in a University degree in Environmental studies, Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change (or relevant area)- (Required) 

Experience

Field experience in working with a humanitarian or international organization (Preferred)

Experience working within the RC/RC Movement (Preferred)

Experience in conducting research, interviews, and surveys (Required)

Knowledge, Skills and Language

Excellent communication and writing skills (Required)

Strong inter-personal and partnership building skills, demonstrated capacity to build functional networks (Required)

Flexible and adaptable to work effectively in a multicultural environment and ability to travel at short notice (Required)

Fluently spoken and written Arabic and English (Required)

Languages

Fluently spoken and written English (Required)

Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic) (Preferred)
