Mental Health and Psycho-Social (MHPSS) Trainer - Iraq

Main Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation. The tasks listed are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

  • Plan, organize and provide training based on global guidelines (such as WHO mhGAP Intervention guide, IPT, PM+ etc.) and adapted to the local context and needs. 
  • Provide training in the identification, management and referral for selected priority mental health conditions for general health care providers adapted to the local context. 
  • Provide training on mental health promotion, psychosocial interventions and community outreach for IMC MHPSS staffs. 
  • Provide ongoing on the job supervision and mentoring to trained staff as well as group and individual supervision. 
  • Provide oversight and support quality control for mental health service provision including supervision, chart audits and reporting. 
  • Ensure completion and analysis of pre/ post knowledge tests and on the job supervision checklists. 
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary team meetings and case discussion among more specialized and general health staff. 
  • Support the integration of mental health at the health facility level by utilizing IMCs MH PHC checklist and standards, providing feedback to clinic and IMC management and supporting sustainable and measurable systems-level integration. 
  • Liaise with IMC country-level staff and HQ Technical Unit (Senior Global MHPSS Advisor 
  • Work within the framework of the IASC guidelines for mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings and Sphere standards as well as WHO MH guidelines 
  • Represent IMC as requested and work collaboratively and in coordination with other agencies, local and international and with relevant government bodies.

Qualifications

  • Psychiatrist/Psychologist (Master degree) with 3+ years’ experience working on MH and PSS programs, preferably in humanitarian settings. 

Experience

  • Training and supervision experience required. 
  • Experience of developing training materials 
  • Experience and skills in training medical professionals and non-professionals 
  • Previous NGO experience in a crisis setting. 
  • Experience in mental health and protection work with displaced persons, refugees, returnees and vulnerable host communities.

Competency 

  • Ability to work in difficult environment under very basic living conditions. 
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within different cultural environment.  
  • Trained on Psychological First Aid, PM+, familiar with mhGAP manual (various versions IG and HIG) and community based MH training material as well as previous training experience to multicultural groups; 
  • Good communication, teamwork skills and ability to work independently
  • Networking and negotiation skills
  • Acquired knowledge of the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, and IASC Guidelines. 
  • Good command of English and Arabic (speaking & writing). 
  • Excellent command of the use of Microsoft Office especially Outlook, Work, Excel and Power Point.
