IOM’s Data and Research Unit aims to contribute to a broader and better understanding of migration patterns and processes at community, national and regional levels, as well as to inform community-based assistance, planning, by informing mission level policy and advocacy.
Activities include research as well as the implementation of Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) components. DTM is a system that aims to track and monitor displacement and population mobility, provide critical information to decision-makers and responders during crises, and contribute to better understandings of population flows. DTM Lebanon assesses the needs of migrants in the country by implementing activities such as the Migrant Presence Monitoring (MPM) and aims to inform IOM’s and the international community’s response.
Under the overall supervision of Head of Programmes and the direct supervision of the Data and Research Officer, and with technical support from the Regional Data Hub and the Global DTM Support Team, the Data Operations Assistant will be responsible for the following activities:
- In coordination with the Data and Research Officer support the development, implementation, and monitoring of DTM data collection and analysis activities in Lebanon, in line with the agreed-upon work plan.
- Coordinate field activities and monitor data collection timelines. Assist in planning all required data collection activities in close collaboration with the Data and Research Officer, partners and local governmental entities;
- Monitor and coordinate the tasks of field staff (enumerators) for both data collection and data entry activities, including through travel on duty.
- Support the quality of IOM’s data collection activities by monitoring and evaluating field activities, identifying changes needed as well as information gaps/research needs.
- Liaise with relevant colleagues to provide timely intervention in case needed during field operations.
Capacity-development and dissemination of information
6. In coordination with the Data and Research Officer, organize capacity-development modules on data collection and migrant protection aspects, based on IOM’s and DTM’s methodology and tools, for enumerators, the IOM mission, as well as external partners.
7. Document, develop and deliver user manuals and training programmes for the data collection and research activities.
8. Draft presentations to share the results of data collection activities.
9. Assist in the dissemination of project results and DTM products
Assist with the management of data collection projects
10. Support the day-to-day management of data collection projects, in line with IOM’s policies and procedures.
11. Support the deployment of DTM enumerators and data collection activities in all operational and administrative aspects, such as by following up with relevant support units on time sheets and payments of enumerator fees. 1
12. Assist in coordinating with other agencies and government bodies to facilitate data collection and DTM operations.
13. Ensure collected data is transferred in due time to relevant focal points
Other support to the data collection activities
14. Report continuously on all relevant activities to the Data and Research Officer Coordinator and make relevant recommendations to ensure the information collected is useful and relevant to all stakeholders.
15. Participate in the development and revision of data collection tools, databases, reports, and maps, as required.
16. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

• Completed high school diploma with at least five years of relevant working experience.
• a minimum of three years relevant work experience; or
• Completed high school diploma with at least five years of relevant working experience.
• Working experience preferably in Lebanon or the region.
• Working experience with International Organizations or INGO an advantage
• Experience with data analysis and research a distinct advantage.
• Strong computer background, including experience with Microsoft applications, spreadsheets, and word processing a distinct advantage.
• Experience in relevant issues such as migration, displacement, and humanitarian assistance an asset.
