Escort (On-call)

Surface transportation within Beirut is organized for a variety of purposes: selection mission interviews, visa applications, pre-departure orientation sessions, health assessments, etc. Refugees also need assistance at various locations where activities are being implemented. Escorts are responsible to ensure a safe and smooth journey and process for refugees to/from and at various locations in Beirut. Under the direct supervision of the Operations Officer, and in close coordination with the Sr. Operations Assistants, the incumbent is responsible to: 

  1. Assist refugees and migrants travelling under auspices of IOM on ground movements within Beirut.
  2. Verify refugees’ and migrants’ identities upon embarkation based on the bus manifests received from the office.  
  3. Assist refugees with processing activities at interview locations, embassies, and other locations.
  4. Distribute food to refugees at embarkation points and report any discrepancies in catering packages.
  5. Act as IOM liaison at border, police or other check points to ensure smooth and safe passage.
  6. Coordinate arrival/departures to/from destination with the relevant focal point (GSD, RSM, VAC, MHAC, PDO, etc.).
  7. Attend to any special needs for refugees and other migrants, including medical cases and unaccompanied minors.
  8. When applicable, escort refugees to hotels for overnight accommodation, and assist with room allocations and needs at the hotel until check-out. Ensure refugees embark buses to next destination. 
  9. Inform focal points in the main office in the Beirut office immediately of any delays, no shows, incidents or other unforeseen circumstances.
  10. Assist with document delivery and collection to/from various partners.
  11. Provide general support to the operations department.
  12. Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
