North Darfur remained an epicenter of clashes since the onset of the conflict on 15 April 2023: an estimated 781,998 individuals (155,602 households) were displaced from Al Fasher town and Zamzam IDP Camp. In April and May 2025, DTM recorded an estimated 498,955 IDPs displaced from Zamzam IDP Camp in Sudan. This figure represented approximately 99 per cent of the population previously recorded in Zamzam Camp. As of 29 June 2025, an estimated 436,685 IDPs displaced from Zamzam Camp were recorded across 26 localities in four states across Sudan. IDPs from Zamzam were primarily displaced to locations across Tawila (75%) and Al Fasher (10%) localities. The decrease in total IDPs displaced from Zamzam primarily reflects increased cross-border movement to Chad.
In late April 2025 and June 2025, DTM field teams recorded 14 incidents which displaced an estimated total of 24,710 individuals (4,942 households) from Al Fasher town and Abu Shouk IDP Camp, Al Fasher locality. A significant number of displaced households were first displaced from Zamzam IDP Camp and later experienced secondary displacement from other areas within Al Fasher locality. According to DTM field teams, many households were displaced multiple times before crossing the border to Chad.
