Community Health & Nutrition Educators (Akkar)

Summary International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland is the official humanitarian relief agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America. Since its inception in 1992, IOCC has delivered $488 million in relief and development programs to families and communities in more than 50 countries. The Community Health & Nutrition Educator (CHNE) will provide awareness sessions on health in general with focus on infant and yound child feeding and family planning. The CHNE will also assist the program on the screening and management of acute malnutrition at the community level by screening children under 5 and pregnant women and referring the identified malnutrition cases to the treatment primary health care centers.    Responsibilities and essential functions Organize and provide daily awareness sessions on Health and Nutrition with a focus on infant and young child feeding and family planning to beneficiaries at the community level. Screen for acute malnutrition by measuring mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) of children 6-59 months of age at the community level Screen for acute malnutrition by measuring and recording mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) of pregnant and lactating women at the community level Refer identified cases with acute malnutrition to the treatment centers within the ministry of public health network Submit daily and weekly report to the Senior Field Officer Attend IOCC-related staff meeting when required Performs other duties as necessary.  Qualifications  Fluency in reading/writing/speaking Arabic and English is necessary Good public speaking and communication skills Strong social, interpersonal and intercultural skills Team player Able to meet deadlines  Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.                  Working Conditions        Will entail substantial traveling and visits to locations where beneficiaries are living (at the community level), to the identified primary healthcare centers and identified hospitals.       It is preferable that candidate resides in the area of interest and that candidates can commute with his/her own car.
