Summary
Community Nutrition and ECD Educator plays a key role in promoting optimal nutrition practices and early childhood development (ECD) at the community level. He/she will provide awareness sessions on nutrition and ECD in general with a focus on infant and young child feeding (IYCF) at the community level.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Organize and provide daily awareness sessions on Nutrition and ECD with a focus on IYCF to beneficiaries at the community level.
- Apply behavior change communication techniques to encourage adoption of recommended nutrition and ECD practices.
- Address barriers, misconceptions, and harmful practices through dialogue, and follow-up visits.
- Engage family decision-makers and community influencers (fathers, grandmothers, leaders) in awareness activities, to create an enabling environment for sustainable behavior change.
- Link the communities to the national IYCF hotline to receive needed IYCF support.
- Refer cases to specialized care when needed through IOCC’s social workers
- Distribute micronutrients supplements to children and PLWs at the community level
- Conduct community screening for acute malnutrition and ECD and follow up on referrals of identified cases to specialized care as needed
- Link the community to the nearest PHCC and inform them of the services provided by the PHCs
- Supervise and support the ECD facilitators ensuring smooth management of ECD corners and implementation of activities.
- Maintain accurate records of sessions, attendance, referrals, and follow-up cases, and submit daily and weekly reports to the project supervisor
- Attend training sessions on relevant topics as necessary
- Attend IOCC-related staff meeting when required
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Qualifications
- Training in IYCF and ECD is an advantage
- Fluency in reading/writing/speaking Arabic and English is necessary
- Good public speaking and communication skills
- Strong social, interpersonal and intercultural skills
- Team player
- Able to meet deadlines
- Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Experience required: Less than one year

Working Conditions
