Summary
The Distribution Monitor helps organize and monitor the transportation, storage, and distribution process of relief items to beneficiaries. She is involved in transportation, stock control, warehousing and monitoring the flow of goods. She liaises with warehouse personnel and the local distribution coordinators. She must occasionally troubleshoot onsite, and, in the absence of the Relief Coordinator, make executive decisions. Her primary responsibilities relate to the distribution process, but she is also expected to assist with the pre- and post- distribution stages. Together with the Relief Coordinator, she is responsible for drafting a consolidated distribution policy.
General Responsibilities
Monitors the receipt of relief goods meant for distribution to refugees
Monitors and occasionally supervises the packing of relief goods at the warehouses
Leads the distribution team in the absence of the Relief Coordinator
Assists in monitoring the transportation of relief goods from IOCC warehouses to distribution sites
Liaises and coordinates with local distribution coordinators and warehouse personnel
Receives lists of beneficiaries from other NGOs and decides on the distribution sites
Checks the names of beneficiaries during the distribution process
Documents (photography) the distribution process
Troubleshoots onsite, both at the distribution centers and at the warehouses
Sets distribution schedules
Always attends distribution of relief goods
Occasionally conducts post-distribution interviews with beneficiaries
Keeps stock of relief goods and accounts of distributed goods (data management)
Assists the Relief Coordinator in developing and updating IOCC’s Distribution Strategy
Creates templates for supporting documents
Suggests improvements to the project’s operations
Motivates other members of the team
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills. Competent in using Word and Excel.
Competencies: Sensitivity to cultural conditions and practices; ability to troubleshoot. Good communication skills; friendly and easy going to accommodate with people. Familiar with the region.
Education: BS or equivalent in relevant experience in similar relief projects is an asset.
Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in distribution of commodities and logistics.
Certifications: None required.
