Supporting maternal and newborn healthcare among vulnerable families affected by the Syria crisis is critical in order to guarantee mothers and newborns survival. The Health Promoter will play a key role in the implementation of this program at the community level by supporting in the establishment of all Mother Care Groups (MCG) in Tripoli, and by overseeing the implementation of the MSGs. The Health Promoter will provide health-related awareness sessions as well as individual counselling to pregnant and lactating women at the primary healthcare center and community level.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Participate in the identification and recruitment of Volunteer Lead Mothers, and the establishment of Mother Care Groups
  • Provide capacity building sessions to the Volunteer Lead Mothers and conduct refresher trainings throughout the project duration
  • Provide regular technical support to the Volunteer Lead Mothers and be the MCGs focal person
  • Provide regular and daily follow up on all MCG activities, and oversee the implementation of the mother care groups
  • Conduct weekly meetings with the Volunteer Lead Mothers and ensure appropriate filling of monitoring and reporting sheets
  • Provide support and one-on-one counseling to pregnant and lactating women at the PHC and community level.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on maternal and infant healthcare at the PHC and community level
  • Report daily and weekly to the field officer on all activities conducted, by completing the required forms
  • Fill and submit the project databases regularly
  • Keep the necessary files for each case visited and counseled.
  • Attend IOCC-related staff meetings when required
  • Represent IOCC in a professional manner and wear the IOCC jacket and ID at all times when on duty
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Native Arabic speaker and fluency in English is necessary
  • Strong social, interpersonal, communication and intercultural skills
  • Team player
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.

Experience:  

  • 2-3 years work experience
  • Previous experience in NGOs and humanitarian field is an advantage
  • Previous experience in IYCF program implementation is an advantage

Working Conditions

  • Stationed in the field
  • Visits to Beirut office for meetings, trainings and relevant paper work.
  • It is preferable that candidate resides in the area of interest
  • The candidate should have his/her own car.
