Hygiene Promoters

HYGIENE PROMOTERS International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland is the official humanitarian relief agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America. Since its inception in 1992, IOCC has delivered $488 million in relief and development programs to families and communities in more than 50 countries. IOCC is looking for full time Hygiene Promoters to be part of the WASH intervention in schools, to safeguard and improve the public health of the affected population by promoting safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services and ensure appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities in public schools and URBAN settings. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:  Together with the Program Coordinator plan and design awareness activities that increase awareness about hygiene related risks. Ensure that action is taken to mitigate the risk of water borne diseases in Lebanon, by carrying out awareness sessions in public schools and urban settings. Plan and facilitate trainings on hygiene promotion for health workers and health advisors/educators in schools. Activate health clubs in public schools. Facilitate appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of hygiene awareness activities related to the community priorities. Use participatory approaches as much as possible throughout the program cycle, and in the use of tool kits and other materials. Liaise with community leaders, local authorities, other sectors and agencies in order to coordinate hygiene activities and cleaning up campaigns. Set up an individual action plan for the location of implementation with an estimated budget for each activity and the target population. Adequately represent IOCC in the field as a Hygiene Promoter working on the Hygiene Promotion Program. Ensure that hygiene awareness activities are in line with relevant standards, donor requirements, codes of conduct, and humanitarian principles. Keep proper records of field expenditures and report on these to the  Hygiene Promotion Program Coordinator Submit regular reports to the Hygiene Promotion Program Coordinator. Perform other duties as required or assigned (this responsibility will always be the final item that is listed). Qualifications: A. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):   Some prior knowledge of hygiene, teaching, community development or health would be an asset Good Listening Skills Strong Communication Skills Flexible with good diplomacy, tact and negotiation skills Experience with and understanding of health and hygiene promotion and community mobilisation. Experience in planning awareness activities and campaigns      B. Competencies:          Ability to work in a team and respect all team members Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of different sectors of the community. Trust and wide acceptance by the community.  C.    Education: Bachelor Degree  D.    Experience: Good knowledge in the field of public health, in particular in the areas of health promotion, vaccination, community health, communicable diseases (in particular water and sanitation related diseases. Practical working experience within health services, social work or with development and/or emergency programs that focus on health awareness, vaccination and/or disease prevention.  E.     Certifications: N/A
