Hygiene Promotion Field Officer

Background: International Christian Orthodox Charities (IOCC) is looking for Hygiene Promotion Field Officers for our Polio Awareness Program. The program will be implemented in collaboration with UNICEF. The aim of the project is to raise awareness about polio, and to encourage polio vaccination, in particular for children under the age of 5 years.  Main tasks and responsibilities: Together with the Program Coordinator plan and design awareness activities that increase awareness about polio, including prevention and vaccination. Ensure that action is taken to mitigate the risk of a polio outbreak in Lebanon, by carrying out awareness sessions in refugee settlements, primary health care centres, hospitals and schools. Plan and facilitate trainings on polio and hygiene promotion for health workers and health advisors in schools. Plan and conduct community meetings and focus group discussions on polio awareness. Facilitate appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of polio awareness activities. Use participatory approaches as much as possible throughout the programme cycle, and in the use of tool kits and other materials. Liaise with community leaders, local authorities, other sectors and agencies in order to coordinate polio awareness activities. Screen for children, in particular those under 5, who have not been vaccinated and refer them for vaccination. Adequately represent IOCC in the field as a Hygiene Promotion Field Officer working on the Polio Program. Ensure that polio awareness activities are in line with relevant standards, donor requirements, codes of conduct, and humanitarian principles. Organise day-to-day logistics, administration, and personnel activities together with the Polio Program Coordinator. Keep proper records of field expenditures and report on these to the Polio Program Coordinator. Submit regular reports to the Polio Program Coordinator.   Qualifications: Educational background in nursing, public health, social work or education. Good knowledge in the field of public health, in particular in the areas of health promotion, vaccination, community health, communicable diseases (in particular water and sanitation related diseases, like polio). Practical working experience within health services, social work or with development and/or emergency programs that focus on health awareness, vaccination and/or disease prevention. Experience with and understanding of health and hygiene promotion and community mobilisation. Experience in planning and designing health and hygiene awareness activities Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of different sectors of a community. Familiarity with the culture of the affected population, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on health and hygiene matters. Experienced in working with local communities in Lebanon Strong communication skills. Flexibility and the ability to work well in a team. Ability to work well under pressure and in response to changing needs. Assessment, analytical, and planning skills. Good oral and written reporting skills. Diplomacy, tact, and negotiating skills. Training/counterpart development skills. Fluency in Arabic and good oral and written English skills
