International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland is the official humanitarian relief agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America. Since its inception in 1992, IOCC has delivered $488 million in relief and development programs to families and communities in more than 50 countries.
The IYCF officer will support the lactation specialists in the IYCF program and assist the IYCF coordinator on a day-to-day basis. She will ensure that all the components of the program are functioning properly, providing quality care to all beneficiaries while respecting guidelines and principles of good practice (operational guidance on IYCF-E, the international code of marketing of breast-milk substitutes, Lebanese law 47/2008 “Organizing the Marketing of Baby and Young Child Feeding Products and Tools”, and SPHERE).
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Accomplish project site activities and staff (IYCF specialists, baby friendly spaces, mother support groups, etc.)
Participate in providing IYCF technical support to CMAM staff (educators, officers and area coordinators)
Ensure that all staff understand and implement the IYCF program guidelines
Ensure appropriate and consistent education messaging to mothers (at PHC, Hospitals and community levels)
Advise the best feeding options and follow ups as appropriate
Participate in the development of mother support groups and mother-baby areas.
Participate in developing regular work plans for the mother support groups and mother-baby areas.
Prepare field visit plans
Spot and address appropriately the violations of the international code of marketing of breast-milk substitutes and violations of the Lebanese law 47/2008 entitled “Organizing the marketing of Infant and Young Child Feeding Products and Tools”
Act as an effective member in promoting, supporting and protecting IYCF practices (give IYCF awareness sessions and IYCF individual counseling sessions as necessary).
Give support to IYCF team members as necessary
Link between CMAM team and IYCF team (such as promoting excellent communication and referral between IYCF counselor, IYCF educator and CMAM)
Assist in the development and review of educational material
Prepare training materials and conduct IYCF trainings when necessary
Make sure all IYCF databases are regularly filled and submitted (awareness sessions database, database of counselled cases and of cases provided with BMS)
Conduct evaluation and appraisal of staff as required
Report weekly to the IYCF coordinator
Perform other duties as required
Qualified applicants will possess:
Native Arabic speaker and fluency in English is necessary
Strong social, interpersonal, communication and intercultural skills
Team player
Able to meet deadlines
Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting, supporting and protecting breastfeeding and complementary feeding
Computer literate
Good communication skills and able to write reports
Capacity to supervise, train and coach staff
Able to deal properly with difficult and frustrating working conditions
Prepared to work in an uncertain security environment
Able to frequently travel and go to the field
1 year experience in the field of nutrition.
B.Sc. in nutrition. M.Sc. is an advantage
