IOCC is currently implementing a School Nutrition Program in Public Schools supported by WFP and in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. To support this program, IOCC is looking at developing a comprehensive school nutrition education intervention targeting children and parents in public schools. In an attempt to ensure a robust process for the development of the material and the intervention, IOCC is looking at recruiting a highly qualified and self motivated Information, Education and Communication Consultant to take charge of this assignment.
Summary
The IEC Consultant will lead the development, testing, design and implementation of the school nutrition education intervention as part of the School Nutrition Program implemented by IOCC with the support of WFP in public schools in Lebanon.
Responsibilities and essential Functions
He/She will be engaged in:
Developing IEC material related to the School Nutrition Education Intervention:
Task 1: Conduct a review of existing nutrition educational material and programs for public schools, through meetings with stakeholders and desk reviews. The research will provide an overview on the gaps and needs related to nutrition education in schools. It will also help in minimizing duplication of and build on existing initiatives and material. The output of this task is the production of a brief report summarizing the main findings of the research that will be used as a basis for the next task.
Task 2: Based on the output of task 1, the consultant will draft the content of a suggested school nutrition education intervention including suggested topics to integrate into the school health curriculum. The draft content should be tailored to the needs of the different age groups and should be adapted to the needs of public school students with emphasis on ensuring that material is administered in an interactive way. The content should be drafted in close collaboration with MEHE, WFP and IOCC. It should be in the form of:
- Overview and learning objectives of the education intervention. The overview will also include an explanation on the way the content is divided or used.
- Outline reflecting the different topics
- Lesson plans per session per learning objective per age group
- Audiovisual and other engaging complementary educational tools to the lesson plans.
- Slides or other visual tools necessary for administering the lesson plans
- Necessary testing tools including pre and post tests as necessary
Testing the appropriateness, validity and relevance of the intervention
Task 3: the consultant will ensure that any material or concept is tested prior to development or finalization. Testing can be in the form of focus group meetings, live testing with children or parents etc. He/she will conduct regular testing through a dynamic process moving back and forth between development and testing until a final product is reached.
Implementation of the intervention
Task 4: The consultant will be in charge of conducting necessary trainings and capacity building for staff who will administer the intervention. The training will be conducted prior to the initiation of the intervention to ensure consistency of delivery between implementers. Training material will be developed as necessary.
Task 5: In addition to a class-form training, the consultant will also be in charge of providing on-the-job support and mentoring on the delivery of the intervention.
Task 6: Conduct a qualitative evaluation of the implemented intervention that would highlight the main outcomes and outputs of the intervention. The output of this task is an evaluation report that includes findings from this evaluation.
Communication and reporting
- The consultant will directly report to the School Nutrition Program Manager
- He/she will liaise as necessary with program staff including educators and school advisors
- Collaboratively work with necessary individuals including graphic designers, translators, or persons in charge of printing houses during the process of the production

- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is preferable
- Previous experience in NGO, and humanitarian field is an advantage
