Project Coordinator

Background: International Christian Orthodox Charities (IOCC) is looking for a Project Coordinator for our Polio Awareness Program. The program will be implemented in collaboration with UNICEF. The aim of the project is to raise awareness about Polio, and to encourage Polio vaccination, in particular for children under the age of 5 years.  Main tasks and responsibilities: Identification of key hygiene practices to be addressed and sectors of the population with whom to engage, and develop an appropriate communications strategy to promote awareness about polio, including prevention and vaccination Plan, implement and monitor IOCC’s Polio Awareness program, and ensure that it is culturally appropriate to the target population. Design and manage a plan to monitor activities, outputs and impact and adapt the programme as needed Ensure that the Polio Awareness Program is in line with relevant standards, donor requirements, codes of conduct, and humanitarian principles. Use participatory approaches as a far as possible throughout the programme cycle, in training, and in the use of tool kits and other materials. Be a focal point for IOCC’s Polio Awareness program to international and national partners, like UNICEF, municipalities, health facilities etc. Represent IOCC and take an active role in relevant meetings and working groups Train, guide and manage Hygiene Promotion Field Officers that work on the Polio Awareness Project Plan and manage the Polio Awareness budget, and control expenditure. Manage day-to-day logistics, administration, and personnel activities (including any local, contracted personnel/daily labour) in accordance with national law and organisational guidelines. Provide regular and reliable narrative and financial reports, as well as share and manage data to the relevant working groups and partner agencies, like for example Activity Info.   Qualifications: Educational background in nursing, public health or social work Solid knowledge in the field of public health, in particular in the areas of health promotion, vaccination, community health, communicable diseases (in particular water and sanitation related diseases, like Polio). At least two years of practical experience working within health services or with development and/or emergency programs that focus on health awareness, vaccination and/or disease prevention. Good knowledge and experience of working with international and national partner agencies Experience with and understanding of health and hygiene promotion and community mobilisation. Experience in planning and designing health and hygiene awareness activities Experience in managing staff/teams Program experience within the field of Public Health and/or emergency programs Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of disaster-affected populations. Demonstrated experience of integrating cross cutting issues into public health promotion programs Strong assessment, analytical, and planning skills. Excellent oral and written reporting skills. Diplomacy, tact, and negotiating skills. Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team. Ability to work well under pressure and in response to changing needs. Fluency in Arabic, as well as solid written and spoken skills in English.
