Under the direct supervision of the senior PWSN case worker, the psychomotor therapist will play an essential role in developing individualized treatment plans that integrate physical, emotional, and cognitive goals through structured play, body movement, coordination activities, and sensory integration.
Responsibilities and Essential FunctionsThe Psychomotor Therapist supports the holistic development of children with physical, cognitive, emotional, or developmental disabilities by using movement-based therapies to improve motor function, body awareness, emotional regulation, social interaction, and learning readiness.
- Assess psychomotor functioning, including gross and fine motor skills, posture, coordination, balance, spatial orientation, body schema, and motor planning.
- Design and implement individualized psychomotor therapy sessions tailored to each child’s developmental and functional needs.
- Use movement, body expression, rhythm, games, and sensory-motor activities to support motor, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams—including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, psychologists, and educators—to develop holistic support plans.
- Contribute to Individualized Education Plans by providing input on psychomotor goals and progress.
- Track, document, and report on children’s progress through regular evaluations and session notes.
- Coach and support caregivers and educators in incorporating therapeutic strategies into daily routines and learning environments.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and motivating therapeutic environment tailored to each child’s abilities and sensitivities.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, family consultations, and training workshops.
- Adapt therapy techniques to suit children with various physical disabilities (e.g., cerebral palsy), neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism, ADHD), and sensory processing challenges.
Qualifications
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
- Language skills: Fluent in Arabic and good command of English (speaking, reading, writing).
- Work experience: 2 years, preferably with NGOs.
- Ability to work compassionately and effectively with children, families, and a multidisciplinary team.
- Highly empathic in dealing with beneficiaries, especially children with specific needs.
- Computer skills: good command of Word and Excel.
- Excellent knowledge of Protection principles and of PSEA.
- Excellent communication skills, including active listening.
- Strong knowledge of motor development, body-brain integration, and therapeutic movement approaches.
- Ability to engage children through creative, playful, and body-centered activities.
Experience:
- At least 3 years work experience.
- Previous experience in NGO, and humanitarian field is an advantage.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with children, preferably those with disabilities.
