Job Overview:
The community health officer supervises the team of community health workers (CHW) mobilized in health response and activities.
Major Responsibilities:
Technical
- Assist in the development of Information, Education and Communication materials related to the community health program and activities.
- Monitor the data entry of the CHW and submit timely weekly and monthly reports to the Health manager.
- Assess the training needs of CHW and ensure that appropriate training is conducted.
- Organize the activities’ schedule of the CHW and monitor their progress.
- Identify performance related issues and report it to the health manager to improve operational efficiencies.
- Assist in coordination of all related community health workers activities, including with external actors when relevant.
- Under supervision of the health manager, identify and recruit appropriate CHWs.
- Ensure that all standardized templates and forms are used are followed.
- Conduct monitoring visits to the different areas to oversee program implementation.
- Contribute to the reports’ writing related to the community health program.
- Participate in any assessments or survey related to the community health program.
- Support the establishment and monitoring of effective referral pathways for health and other services from community to facility levels.
- Identify and develop strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders that will assist community health programs in achieving its health-related aims and objectives.
Coordination
- Liaise closely with the Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning (MEAL) officer for health program in designing a monitoring framework for the Cholera response.
- Work in close collaboration with field management teams and other sector departments to ensure proper coordination and implementation of integrated approaches.
Key Working Relationships:
- Position Reports to: Health manager
- Internal Contacts: Country Program: Health Program team, M&E, Education team, and Protection team.
- External: IRC health Partners and other health actors.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience
- University Degree in health-related field.
- Proven experience in primary healthcare and community mobilization.
- Experience in mentoring and training; experience in supervising staff and CHW desirable.
Demonstrated Professional Competencies & Technical skills
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties.
- Strong time management skills with ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to be flexible, adaptable, creative, and innovative in a challenging environment.
- Very good computer skills.
