Psychosocial Assistant

Background/IRC Summary:  BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee is an international organization specializing in emergency and humanitarian programming existing since 1933 and working in more than 40 countries. In response to the influx of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the IRC started a Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) program and a Livelihood program in 2012 with program strategies implemented in various locations in the Northern and Beka’a Governorates. IRC is now complementing their response with a Child Protection (CP) program in Mont Lebanon and the North. Job Overview/Summary: The psychosocial (PSS) assistant is working hand in hand with the PSS officer. He/she is responsible to organize more structured PSS activities in the center, facilitate and co-facilitate training, support technically the field associates.    Major Responsibilities: Organize and deliver focused PSS activities in centers and Informal tented Settlements for children of different age groups Facilitate and co-facilitate trainings in the communities and to staff, and volunteers or PSS and  Child Protection Provide technical support to the field associates and when needed organize PSS/life skills  activities in the community Participate in the organization of events and awareness campaigns Compile all the necessary M&E tools Any other CP activity as required   Other Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of field teams; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to IRC management and  liaising with community leaders and other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment for IRC programs Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs   Professional Standards All IRC staff are required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.   Key Working Relationships: Position Reports to:  PSS Officer Position directly supervises:  N/A Indirect Reporting: Support to Field Associates and Volunteers as indicated by Area Officer and CP Manager Other Internal and/or external contacts: this position is part of the child protection team Internal: Area Officer and CP Manager   Job Requirements: Technical diploma or degree in social science, pedagogy, preferable Experience in working with children and organizing activities Working experience in NGO a plus Experience in running Psychosocial program a plus Experience in conducting training Minimum of 3 years working experience Demonstrated understanding of working with children and particularly vulnerable children Personal qualities: Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure, enjoying working in the field Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, English speaking is a plus    Travel and other requirements: Staff will be based in either the North, operating from IRC Qobayat office.
