INTERSOS is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization that works to bring assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected.

INTERSOS is recognized by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and the principal UN agencies; it is privileged to hold an advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

INTERSOS is an independent association which, through its own humanitarian operators, intervenes to effectively answer the needs of people in serious crises situations, mainly in the world's poorest regions, who are suffering, deprived of rights, dignity and essentials goods. It maintains a flexible operating structure. The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralized offices.

Job Title    : Psychologist

Reports to        : Administratively to Protection officer and Technically to MHPSS Specialist

Job Purpose:

 

The psychologist is responsible to provide specialized services and individual psychological support for people with moderate to severe mental and/or emotional disorders, including survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), children facing protection risks and people with specific needs (PwsN) in the areas of intervention in Nabatiyeh governorate. The Psychologist will also provide technical support to protection staff to implement sound psychosocial support (PSS) activities for children and adults. The psychologist will carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including but not limited to: do no harm, non- discrimination, confidentiality, accountability and need-to-know principles

 

Generic Duties:
  • Assist protection cases with identified mental or emotional disorders referred internally or externally
  • Conduct case-by-case needs assessments for the diagnosis of psychological disorders and identification of treatment and therapy
  • Develop individual assistance plans and conduct psychological counselling utilizing various techniques
  • Provide group and individual counselling sessions, according to identified needs
  • Maintain accurate and timely record keeping, document progress on cases, maintaining strict protocols for confidentiality and consent, and ensure that data protection protocols are respected
  • Provide technical input and support to INTERSOS Social Workers in assessing the target population’s needs and designing relevant community based psychosocial support (PSS) and peer support group activities and curricula.
  • Provide coaching and support to the field staff in the implementation and facilitation of structured PSS activities
  • Work in close collaboration with technical staff (Protection Manager and Protection Officer) for the development of the project’s overall PSS component
  • Facilitate internal trainings to protection staff on the provision of basic psychosocial counselling as part of the case management
  • Facilitate trainings for internal protection staff and communities on psychosocial first aid (PFA)
  • Support Protection Coordinator and Protection Officer in developing and/or updating protection tools and training materials in order to meet projects requirements
  • Support Deputy Project Manager in developing required donor reports, providing relevant insights on protection related issues
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relations with relevant partners and other project stakeholders working in the project areas
  • Proactively participate in relevant coordination and other meetings, as requested by the supervisor

  • University Degree in Psychology

Professional Competencies:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in a clinical setting and with at least one year in NGO.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing individual counselling services.
  • Experience providing individual counselling services.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Analytical and reporting skills.
  • Driving license issued since 2 years
