Volunteer - Emergency Response Unit

INTERSOS is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization that works to bring assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected.

INTERSOS identifies with the core values of CONCORD, the European Confederation of NGOs; it adheres to international codes of conduct for humanitarian organizations and the values and principles expressed within those codes. INTERSOS is recognized by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and the principal UN agencies; it is privileged to hold an advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

INTERSOS is an independent association which, through its own humanitarian operators, intervenes to effectively answer the needs of people in serious crises situations, mainly in the world's poorest regions, who are suffering, deprived of rights, dignity and essentials goods. It maintains a flexible operating structure. The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralized offices.

Job Title      : Volunteer – Emergency Unit

Reports to          : Mobile Unit Team Leader

Duty Station       : Beirut and Mount Lebanon area

Position Type     : Volunteer

Job Purpose:

This position has been created as a response to the emergency situation in Beirut areas that were affected by the latest explosion.

The Volunteer will be accompanying the mobile unit team to distribute hygiene kits and conduct awareness and referrals for persons of concern.

Generic Duties:

1. Distribute the hygiene kits and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as identified by emergency unit team and management.
2. Promote key messages around protection against COVID-19.
3. Conduct awareness sessions for targeted household on retrieval of lost documentations (ex; IDs, civil documentations, etc.)
4. Contribute to the rapid needs assessment data collection.
5. Contribute to the identification and referral of cases to needed services.
6. Report to team leader any observations that require immediate attention in the field.
7. Accomplish any other assignments given by supervisors or the PM.

Education:

• Student or recent graduate in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent.

• 0-1 year of relevant work experience in related field

• Proficiency in MS office.

Merits:

• Volunteers will receive transportation and Meal allowance.
• INTERSOS will give the volunteers what proves that he/she is a volunteer of INTERSOS serving the community i.e. ID cards, Work certificate.
• Volunteers will benefit of on job trainings organized by INTERSOS to facilitate work.
• Volunteers are expected to be available to provide 40 hours a week.
