Overall Job description:
1. Support the Project team in mapping and assessing children to attend active learning classes in Arabic-English-Math-Science.
2. Register and enroll children in active learning classes.
3. Work directly with children in a community center, carrying out psycho-education activities.
4. Plan, organize and run active learning sessions with children while facilitate and encourage the participation of all children.
5. Ensure classes run in a timely manner to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
6. Ensure that children are all involved in the classes and that there is possibility for boys and girls to work both together and in gender based group.
7. Deal with difficult behaviors (conflict, aggressiveness, introversion) and understand the reason behind the behavior to positively communicate with the situation.
8. Ensure Children under her/his responsibility are not exposed to any form of Harm or stress during the activities
9. Liaise with the Supervisor on regular basis regarding the implementation of classes.
10. Report items needing purchase, repair or replacement and submit list of needs/ tools and materials.
Specific main tasks:
1. Builds on an already existing knowledge principles of active learning:
- Assisting Children constructing their own meaning (learners are not passive knowledge absorbers; they make knowledge meaningful and useful in a new situation, dynamic environment, and interactive methods and technics).
- New learning builds on prior knowledge (learners combine old and new information and make sense of it).
- Ensuring that Active Learning is enhanced by social interaction (learners resolve conflicting ideas in social settings participating in small group activities first and discussions within the entire class later).
- Ensure that Active Learning develops through “authentic” tasks (learners’ activities should simulate those that will be encountered in real life).
- Ensure to create the environment where students will be engaged in learning in collaboration with each other and with the facilitator.
- Enhance and develop: Activities like discussion, idea mapping, and debate require students to construct knowledge through higher order thinking (such as recalling, applying, analyzing, and evaluating, synthesizing, and verbalizing concepts). This contrasts knowledge passively transmitted to students solely via listening, transcribing, memorizing, and reading.
Ensure children’s safety and protection:
1. Work in compliance with and respect of the principles of Child Protection and confidentiality, working with refugee and host communities with sensitivity
2. Identify key protection threats affecting the children and raise them to the CP Focal Point.
4. Inform the Supervisor about any health issues that could arise among children
5. Identify children requiring case management and ensure safe referral to case management agencies or service providers in coordination with project coordinator.
Handle tracking, reporting on activities and filing:
1. Collect data on the active learning classes organized and ensure that all the relevant forms are duly filled
2. Ensure related means of verifications (MOV) including registration sheets, attendance sheets, SDQs, evaluation documents… are in place for each activity in coordination with the Supervisor.
3. Administer SDQs at the beginning and the end of each cycle
4. Fill and archive specific forms for referrals and weekly reporting, ensuring confidentiality, accuracy and timeliness.
Other duties:
1. Attend and participate in weekly reporting and planning meetings to ensure adherence to standards of care, and reporting requirements are followed
2. Attend and participate in local and international training and capacity building events as needed
3. Attend and participate in outdoor events and other organizational events
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- One-two years work experience in implementing recreational activities, psychosocial activities with children, teaching)
- Capable of dealing with children who have experienced war distress (education in emergency preferable
- Knowledge on Child Protection and active learning program
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to create and work as a team.
- Creative and able to come up, embrace and coordinate innovative thinking, and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of working with children and particularly vulnerable children
