Supply and installation of equipment and materials for the establishment of a woodchip production unit in Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve.

Istituto Oikos intends to award a supply contract divided into 3 lots for the Supply and Installation of equipment and materials to be deployed for the establishment of a woodchips production unit in Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve (JMBR) in Yahchouch. The project falls within the framework of the project “Resiland - Promoting resilience to climate change through planning, capacity development and integrated land management” AID012590/06/4, cofunded by the Italian Agency for Cooperation and development (AICS).

The Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve has a long-term management plan for excess agricultural and forestry biomass, aiming to reduce the risk of forest fires and revitalize biomass according to the principles of sustainable natural resource management, thus reducing the use of fossil fuels. APJM already has a facility in Yahchouch, a native tree nursery, where is currently stored biomass collected from thinning and pruning. Therefore, the production cycle can be carried out within the premises of this facility. Essentially, the equipment consists of: a shredder, used to cut the biomass to the most suitable size for processing into wood chips; tools for sorting and separating the shredded material, which consists of a sieving and blowing system for separating the wood chips; electrical equipment to operate a the ventilation system used to dry the wood and remove moisture. Finally, monitoring tools are needed to verify the moisture level of the wood chips.
