Field Special Educator - Beqaa

General Purpose of the Position

Under the supervision of the Country Inclusion Officer and Project Directors, the Field Special Educator is responsible for promoting inclusive education in the JRS projects in Bar Elias and Baalbek. His/her role consists of supporting the education teams in identifying students with disabilities, and in designing and implementing innovative pedagogical strategies that aim at strengthening their inclusion in their educational environment.

Main Responsibilities of the Position

All the responsibilities below require a close and continuous collaboration with the Project Education Officers.

1.Quality of the Education Programme

  • Supports the education teams in identifying students with disabilities at the different stages of the education programme, including registration and enrolment;
  • Offers insights for enhancing curriculum design and teaching methods to cater to diverse learners, including those with disabilities;
  • Develops, revises, and oversees educational materials and training resources as required;
  • Supports tutors in developing and executing lesson plans, assessments, and inclusive teaching strategies;
  • Conducts classroom observations to provide actionable feedback;
  • Ensures accessibility of school/classroom materials for all students, including those with disabilities;
  • Collaborates with the Country Inclusion Officer to assess the effectiveness of the inclusive education interventions.

2.Internal & External Coordination

  • Collaborates closely with the education team, School Social Worker, and Country Inclusion Officer to provide technical and operational support;
  • Works with the tutors and other education team members to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities;
  • Arranges meetings with parents to discuss IEP-related matters;
  • Meets regularly with School Principals and, when needed, with School Social Workers and Project Psychologists;
  • Supports the project teams in mapping local stakeholders and coordinating with them for external referrals of students with disabilities.

3.Capacity Building & Awareness-Raising

  • Identifies training needs and facilitates professional development interventions in inclusive education through training and mentoring;
  • Conducts inclusion-related awareness sessions and social events for caregivers and students in collaboration with the education teams and the Country Inclusion Officer.

Availability

Ensures prompt execution of other reasonable tasks that are within the ambit of the position as requested by the Country Inclusion Officer and Project Directors or their nominee.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. Teaching Diploma is an asset;
  • At least three years of teaching experience and two years of program management or coordination experience, preferably in a non-formal education program;
  • Excellent knowledge of formal and non-formal education programs in Lebanon;
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Arabic and English;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coordination, and presentation skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PPT, Excel). Good knowledge of Kobo is an asset;
  • Skilled in report writing.
