School Social Worker

General Purpose of the position The School Social Worker is the Focal Point for Protection in Fr Frans Van der Lugt Centre and in all Outreach activities at the Centre. He/she takes care of the psycho-social support for kindergarten and primary school aged children in the center. He/she reports to the Project Director and coordinates with the School Principal. Main Responsibilities of the Position  a-  Protection Focal Point The School Social Worker is the focal point for protection, responsible for the implementation of protection policies with special attention to schoolchildren. Takes special care of vulnerable and high risk children, adolescents and adults among the people we serve. Supports the Team in tasks related to all Protection Issues arising in the Centre and in Outreach.  b-  Psychosocial Support Provides basic counselling to less complex cases. Facilitates access and referral for cases of trauma and high-risk to competent professionals. Accompanies and collaborates with the Home Visits Team to reach out to the families of students c-   Communication and Progarmming Cultivates and facilitates contact with local organizations related to the position, in close collaboration with the Project Director. Analyzes the needs of refugees and suggest new initiatives to the Project Director. Elaborates an action plan, together with the Project Director and the other Social Workers of the center, resulting from a needs assessment. Knowledge, Skills and Personal Attributes Good communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and team working skills Good cultural awareness and sensitivity Highly approachable, trustworthy and confidential  Relevant Experience Minimum of 1-2 years of working with children. Experience in working with refugees is a plus. - Ensure prompt execution of other tasks which are within the ambit of the position which may be requested by the Project Director as needs occur.
