The main objective of the position is to support the emergency response efforts by capturing high-quality photos and videos that tell the story of those impacted and the organization’s work. This position is crucial to visually documenting the current situation and raising awareness through social media channels and other platforms. In close coordination with the Country Communications Officer, the Communications Assistant will play a key role in producing engaging multimedia content to increase visibility and mobilize support for JRS’s emergency response.
Main Responsibilities of the Position:
- Photo and Video Production:
- Capture high-quality photos and videos during field visits to JRS's intervention areas in Bourj Hammoud, Sin el-Fil, Bekfaya, Central Bekaa, and Baalbek.
- Ensure the content showcases key aspects of JRS’s emergency response, including stories of the people served and staff involvement.
- Coordinate with program teams to identify relevant moments and subjects to document.
- Photo and Video Editing:
- Edit raw footage and images to create polished, engaging, and professional-quality content.
- Apply visual storytelling techniques to convey the organization’s mission and work.
- Produce short videos and visual content that can be used across different media platforms, including social media, newsletters, and reports.
- Content Creation for Social Media:
- Provide regular, engaging content (both photos and videos) for JRS's social media platforms.
- Collaborate with the Country and Regional Communications Officers to develop content strategies and campaigns that align with JRS’s overall communication goals.
- Coordination & Compliance:
- Work under the supervision of the Country Director and in close coordination with the Country Communications Office and Regional Communications Officer to ensure that all produced content aligns with JRS’s guidelines and policies.
- Ensure all media complies with JRS’s safeguarding policies and respects the dignity and privacy of the people served.
- Follow ethical guidelines for consent and representation when photographing and filming people in vulnerable situations.
Qualifications, Skills, and Personal Attributes
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in photography, videography, and photo/video editing software.
- Strong storytelling skills and ability to produce visually compelling content that engages diverse audiences.
- Experience in managing social media platforms and producing content optimized for social media.
- Familiarity with media production tools and techniques for humanitarian or emergency settings.
- Fluency in Arabic and English is a must.
- Previous experience working in a humanitarian or emergency response context is an asset.
- Professional Attributes:
- Ability to work in sensitive and fast-paced environments with diverse communities.
- Flexibility to travel regularly between Country Office in Geitawi and intervention areas in Bourj Hammoud, Sin el-Fil, Bekfaya, Central Bekaa, and Baalbek.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing media files and editing projects.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team setting.
