Expert Food Systems

 1. Background and objectives of the project

The current project builds on the work that Jibal started in 2021 in Zgharta. With the support of FES, the NGO gathered the benchmark data needed in order to support the establishment of a territorial food system here with the following objectives: 

- Identifying benchmark information on existing food actors, social and economic networks and governance structures and strategies.

- Synthesize the collected data into actionable and evidence-based knowledge to be used in the next phase of the project.

This led to the production of a report and infographics (under construction) that can serve for disseminating the results. The second phase would aim at building a territorial food strategy for the Zgharta area. This strategy aim at guiding and planning food related interventions in the region considering the following criteria:

- Is environmentally friendly

- Ensures the development of a local and circular economy

- Makes sure farmers can have a sustainable and decent economic level  

- Consumers have access to affordable quality food

2.  Scope of work

The expert in food systems is expected to do the below : 

- Is involved with the main researcher and Jibal team in writing the strategy; 

- Takes part in presentations and discussions with actors from Zgharta to engage them in the reflection and production of the strategy

The consultant will be supported by an assistant researcher and will work closely with Jibal team.

4. Qualifications of consultant

Minimum 7 years experience in research on food related topics

Good knowledge of food related topics

Good organizational skills

Excellent communication skills.

Very good reporting capabilities in English and Arabic.

5. Number of working days :

The assignment period is between March 2022 and July 2022 :

Total: 10 days

6 . Management

The consultant will work under the supervision of the project manager.
