Part-Time Drama Therapist

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Within the program, the Drama Therapist will use drama-based interventions, including role-play, storytelling, improvisation, and group activities, to help children explore their emotions, build self-awareness, and develop coping mechanisms. These activities will be tailored to the children’s ages, developmental stages, and individual needs, with a focus on integrating traumatic experiences into their life stories in a healthy and constructive way.

The Drama Therapist will work on a part-time basis and will be responsible for:

Designing and implementing drama therapy sessions that promote emotional expression, social skills, and self-confidence.

Using drama techniques such as role-playing, puppetry, improvisation, and guided storytelling to address the children’s emotional and psychological needs.

Ensuring the overall welfare of the children in their care, including supporting their creative play, artistic expression, and participation in group activities.

Collaborating with the Program Coordinator, educators, and the Management Team to plan and deliver trauma-informed activities that align with the program’s goals.

Adapting activities to suit the pace and developmental needs of the children, making modifications as necessary.

Familiarizing themselves with and adhering to the organization’s policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Safeguarding (child protection), and Equal Opportunities.

Preparing and planning sessions in advance, including daily, weekly, and long-term plans, and documenting these plans for clarity and continuity.

Conducting regular reviews of sessions and activities, and maintaining individual child observations/assessments to track progress and identify areas for further support.

Communicating with parents, carers, and families to keep them informed about their children’s progress and involvement in the program.

Contributing to the care and aesthetic of the classroom or therapy space, ensuring it is a safe, welcoming, and sensory-appropriate environment.

Working collaboratively with other educators, assistants, and administrative staff to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

a) EDUCATION:

Degree or Certification in Drama Therapy or a related field (e.g., Expressive Arts Therapy, Psychology, or Counseling with a focus on drama therapy).

b) WORK EXPERIENCE:

At least 3 years of professional experience in drama therapy, preferably working with children in a therapeutic or educational setting.

c) LANGUAGES:

Fluency in English and Arabic (verbal and written).

d) REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with children, families, and colleagues.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Skills in planning, organizing, and adapting therapeutic activities to meet the needs of diverse groups of children.

A compassionate and patient approach to working with children who have experienced trauma or emotional challenges.

Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and Waldorf or holistic educational methods is an advantage.

Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in the field of drama therapy.
