Location: Sabra and Karantina Centers, Beirut, Lebanon
Schedule: Once a week (8 hours per day)

Objective of the Role

The psychologist will play a crucial role in addressing the psychosocial needs of children, supporting caregivers and parents, and fostering the well-being of staff members while upholding and promoting child protection and safeguarding standards.

Key Responsibilities

For Children

  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions for children experiencing trauma, anxiety, or other emotional challenges.
  • Conduct psychological assessments to understand individual needs and design appropriate intervention plans.
  • Facilitate psycho-social support activities such as play therapy, art therapy, or storytelling.
  • Identify and address child protection concerns, ensuring timely referrals to appropriate services.
  • Collaborate with educators and staff to ensure trauma-sensitive and child-safe practices are integrated into daily activities.

For Parents and Caregivers

  • Organize regular counselling sessions or workshops for parents to help them understand and address their children’s emotional and psychological needs.
  • Provide strategies and tools to parents for supporting their children in managing stress and trauma at home.
  • Promote awareness of child protection and safeguarding principles to empower caregivers in creating safe and supportive environments.

For Staff

  • Offer psychological first aid and support to staff members dealing with stress, burnout, or secondary trauma.
  • Conduct capacity-building sessions for staff on psychosocial approaches, self-care, and child safeguarding practices.
  • Support staff in identifying and responding to protection risks while ensuring adherence to safeguarding protocols.

General

  • Collaborate with the Just.Childhood team to design and implement a holistic psycho-social support framework that integrates protection and safeguarding measures.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential records of sessions while adhering to safeguarding standards.
  • Provide input and recommendations for enhancing child protection mechanisms within the centers.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children and families, preferably in trauma-informed and protection-focused settings.
  • Proven experience in counselling, facilitating psycho-social support activities, and addressing child protection concerns.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of child protection and safeguarding principles.
  • Familiarity with the socio-cultural dynamics of Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese communities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Fluency in Arabic; proficiency in English is a plus.

Deliverables

  • Weekly progress reports summarizing activities, outcomes, and protection concerns addressed.
  • Monthly recommendations to enhance the psycho-social program and safeguarding measures.
  • Tools or resources (e.g., guides, tips) for parents, staff, and children on mental health and protection.

Reporting

The psychologist will report to the Program Coordinator and work closely with educators, social workers, and other team members to ensure effective implementation of psycho-social and safeguarding practices.

Child Protection and Safeguarding

  • Report any concerns or incidents related to child protection following the organization’s protocols.
  • Promote a culture of safety and respect, ensuring all activities are conducted in a safe and protective manner.
