Women’s Access to Justice- Phase 2: is a three years program implemented by Justice without Frontiers in partnership with Oxfam GB in the area of Mount Lebanon. The key problem this project is currently addressing is the limited and inequitable access of poor and vulnerable women to justice. The underlying factors are described in more detail below:
Limited capacities of women to claim their rights due to limited ability to make well informed decisions related to one’s rights and limited affordability of legal services and litigation for women.
Women are socially deterred from accessing the judicial system.
Formal and informal justice systems are perceived as gender biased/ discriminating against women.
Limited impact of CSO advocacy on women’s rights and access to justice.
As a partner of the project, Justice without frontiers is seeking to ensure the good implementation of the principles and objectives of the project. This is through interventions at the personal, community, systemic levels.
Job Overview/Summary:
Develop and deliver six-days training to a group of 50 community facilitators. The participants will be provided with knowledge on gender and woman’s rights.
Qualifications:
The trainer should have the following competencies and experience:
•Hold a Masters degree in human rights studies, social sciences or other relevant field.
•Post Graduate qualification in woman rights and Gender Studies
• Good knowledge in Peace Studies, social justice, and conflict resolution
•Experience in working with government and non-government institutions on women’s human rights
• Good training and communication skills
• Good educational skills
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic language.
Training requirements:
-Develop the content of the training and teaching aids (including agenda, working methods and procedures, handouts and evaluation forms) which will be discussed with the Project Team;
- The trainer must identify the different elements that comprise woman’s rights convention, and specify how each of these elements can reinforce/ challenge gender inequality. The trainer must focus on the following:
Defining Gender: simple definitions, sex and gender roles
History and perspectives of Gender: Women in Development (WID) and Gender in Development and the difference between practical needs and strategic needs.
Gender Socialization: social roles and responsibilities of men and women, i.e boys v. girls and impact of that distinction
Provide a general approach to CEDAW and the binding nature of the state’s obligation and the Lebanese law application of CEDAW rights.
- Provides an expansive definition of discrimination and comprehensive bill of rights for women
- Show how woman is under-represented in formal decision-making structures. Although women are increasingly active in community support systems, gender disparities persist in public positions.
- Addresses the weaknesses in the system and institutions that permit such disparities.
Goals (MDGs), especially goal 3, dealing specifically with Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment,as a powerful agenda of a global partnership that promotes woman’s rights.
In addition to the above, the trainer must focus on the following:
• Provide trainees with practical skills for preparing, facilitating and monitoring awareness sessions.
• Ensure using interactive, participatory methods such as the use of case studies and real life examples. Community facilitators must be strengthened in order to be able and confident to conduct awareness sessions in the future.
Expected output of the training:
-Community facilitatorswill improve knowledge in gender and woman’s rights law collaboratively and skills necessary for designing and delivering basic awareness sessions for men, women and youth.
The trainer must take into consideration the following:
• Areas of gender justice issues that have seen regression
•Recognize the contexts in which discrimination against women occurs and the mannerin which discrimination is structured
•Establish that discrimination results in inequality, loss of benefits, rights and power forwomen.
Key Deliverables:
Final Report: After the delivery of the training, the trainer shall submit to the Project Manager a report including the followings:
•Concise presentation of the training sessions content and of applied methods, including the most important, attractive ideas of participants on the discussed subjects;
•Conclusions and recommendations
•Designing the training programme evaluation forms and develop the training evaluations that will be filled in by participants;
