Film making Instructor

Since 2013, KAFA has partnered with UNICEF in a project titled “Protecting children, adolescents and women from Gender Based Violence” aiming at enhancing the protection of vulnerable children and adolescents affected by the Syrian crisis from GBV (early marriage, sexual abuse...), through promoting their right to information by improving their access to adequate services and their awareness on how to protect themselves from GBV. The project is ongoing for the sixth consecutive year.

 

In 2019, KAFA will continue its partnership with UNICEF in the same project through operating an Adolescent Friendly Space (AFS) in Chtaura, safe spaces in Beirut and Mount Lebanon areas (Social Development Centres and Informal Settlements) and the Support Center (SC) in Bekaa and Badaro, developing national tools to prevent child protection risks and Gender Based Violence as well as capacity development of other GBV and non GBV organizations. As part of the psychosocial support activities provided with children, adolescents and women, group support sessions are conducted aiming at empowering them through strengthening their ability to express themselves, have better communication skills and build their confidence. Thus, a consultant will be recruited to teach filmmaking to a group of adolescents in Bekaa area.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

The Filmmaking teacher will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct filmmaking sessions with adolescents in the Adolescent Friendly Space in Chtaura - Bekaa.
  • Develop a detailed working plan of the sessions that will be provided (a proposal to be attached);
  • Give the adolescents a powerful tool that they can explore and understand, harness the unique stories and authentic voices by creating stories 2-4 minutes long. This will impact them on different levels of which:

                                A. Giving voice to marginalized groups

                                B. Self-representation and agency

                                C. Challenging stereotypes

                                D. Skills and media competence

                                E. Community-building exercise

  • Fill the referral form and send it to the Supervisor in case any person discloses abuse;
  • Refer to the Supervisor on matters related to logistics;
  • Ensure the achievement of the sessions’ objectives;
  • Update the attendance sheet on each session;
  • Work with Monitoring & Evaluation officer on the required tools;
  • Make sure the best practice standards of KAFA are being implemented;
  • Submit a final report in English after the end of the sessions;
  • Meet the deadlines.

 

Required Qualifications

At least 4 years’ experience in providing filmmaking sessions with children at high risk or survivors of GBV.

 

Key Characteristics:

  • Demonstrated understanding of GBV in general and family violence in particular;
  • Proven experience in providing short filmmaking sessions to groups of adolescents;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Team work skills.

 

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS:

While working on a KAFA project, it is required to sign KAFA’s Child Protection Policy and KAFA’s code of conduct.
