Photography Consultant

Scope of work:

As part of the psychosocial support activities provided to children, adolescents, and women, and due to the dramatic effects of the current situation in Lebanon on mental health, group support sessions will be conducted aiming at empowering them through strengthening their ability to express themselves, have better communication skills and provide healthy ways to cope with stress. Thus, a consultant will be recruited to conduct photography sessions in Beirut and Bekaa areas.

The photography Consultant’s responsibility is to provide photography sessions to groups of children and adolescents. The photography consultant will be working closely with the Child Protection Coordinators as well as with the field staff.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Develop a detailed working plan of the sessions that will be provided (a proposal to be attached);
  • Conduct photography sessions with groups of children and adolescents in informal settlements, SDCs, and KAFA centers in the Beirut and Bekaa areas;
  • Work with the adolescents on technical command of the photographic medium. They should be able to make confident, informed decisions regarding composition, exposure, and print quality, using both analog and digital technology, and increase their knowledge of the history of the photographic medium and how it relates to the history of the other fine arts. Through their photographs, critiques, and written evaluations adolescents should demonstrate an ability to articulate their intentions about their work and criticisms of others’ works using objective terminology;
  • Fill out the referral form and send it to the supervisor in case any person discloses abuse;
  • Refer to the supervisor on matters related to logistics;
  • Ensure the achievement of the sessions’ objectives;
  • Update the attendance sheet for each session;
  • Work with Monitoring & Evaluation officer on the required tools;
  • Make sure the best practice standards of KAFA are being implemented;
  • Submit a final report after the end of the sessions;
  • Meet the deadlines.

Required Qualifications (skills and Experience):
• University/Technical Degree in Photography or Audiovisual Arts.
• At least four years of provision of photography sessions to children and adolescents.
• Experience in a non-governmental organization, and a good knowledge of local context and community in Bekaa and Beirut/Mount Lebanon;
• Teamwork.
• Demonstrated understanding of GBV in general and family violence in particular.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
