Psycho-Social Support Specialist/Trainer

PROJECT/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

 

The Safe and Sound (SAS) project aims to build the capacity of two local NGO schools’ staff, teachers and parents by developing and implementing a school-based psychosocial support program for Syrian refugees aged 12-18 currently living in Bekaa, Lebanon. The Safe and Sound program helps young adolescents to build peace in mind by learning to handle strong emotions and be guided in finding alternative, healthy coping skills that strengthen resilience and promote non-violent relationships with others. The 10-week program will take place in the schools in fall 2019 (1.5 hours/week) and will reinforce Syrian refugee adolescents’ resilience through skill-building in self-awareness, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, non-violence, and healthy communication. In addition, 2-3 sessions will be addressed to provide psychosocial support for the adolescents’ parents, and 2-3 sessions to the schools staff.

 

ROLE AND TASKS:

 

Project SAS is looking for a team of psychosocial support specialists/trainers who will:

  • Participate in a Training of Trainers;
  • Train facilitators (teachers and community workers) to implement the Safe and Sound psychosocial support program at their schools;
  • Facilitate 4 to 6 psychosocial support sessions (of 1.5 hours) with parents or school staff;
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and psychosocial support for teachers during the implementation of the program (including class observations, as well as one-one-one and group meetings);
  • Facilitate and support monitoring and evaluation tasks.
  • Selected specialists/trainers will receive a 10 days training from Living Peace Institute experts prior to beginning work with the facilitators (teachers & community workers), parents and school staff//10 days (certificate by LPI,MSM and AUB) (unpaid)// 26 August - 6 September, 2019.
  • Deliver training of facilitators (teachers & community workers) in the Bekaa area. Specialists are expected to co-train in a team of two//5 days per training group (one or two groups) (paid)// 9 - 13 September, 2019.
  • Supervision of facilitators (teachers & community workers) in the Bekaa area (only for specific moments of supervision). One specialist could take on multiple training groups//5 part-time days per training group (paid)// Start of academic year September/October 2019 - January 2020.
  • Facilitate parents sessions in the Bekaa area//2-3 part-time days per intervention group (paid)// Start of academic year September/October 2019 - January 2020.
  • Facilitate school staff sessions in the Bekaa area//2-3 part-time days per intervention group (paid)// Start of academic year September/October 2019 - January 2020.

 

 

COMPETENCES AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Significant experience in training, preferably on topics related to psychosocial support and gender based violence. Previous experience training teachers or working in schools is a plus;
  • Experience working with Syrian refugee communities;
