Open Vacancy: Researcher

KW is a feminist organization based in Beirut working on storytelling and oral history, researching women’s stories and histories, and developing feminist publications and resources.

KW is currently looking to hire a researcher to contribute to its upcoming publication on Ecology and Feminism in Lebanon.

The researcher will be conducting interviews and literature reviews around specific ecological issues in Lebanon from feminist perspectives. The researcher is also expected to write a 5000-word quality essay based on their research.

Timeframe for this position: September 2021-December 2021.

Qualifications:

Researchers must have:

  • MA in Humanities or Social Sciences, or MA in Environmental Sciences (or equivalent experience)
  • No less than three years of experience in conducting research
  • Familiarity with, and interest in, feminist research and writings in Lebanon, and general knowledge of feminist methodologies.
  • Familiarity with, and interest, in ecological issues
  • Knowledge of oral history is a plus
  • Residency in Lebanon is necessary for this position, although a Lebanese nationality is not required.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required for this position.

 

The researcher is expected to propose a topic that they are interested in, and KW will agree with the selected researchers on their topic. 

 

Possible topics can include, but are not limited to:

  • Connections between ecological and economic destruction in Lebanon
  • Overview of major environmental issues in Lebanon using a feminist approach
  • A feminist approach to environmentalism, public health and environmental racism and classism.
  • Women and girls in rural areas and in the agricultural sector
  • Feminist analysis of ecotourism in Lebanon, before and after 2020
  • History of environmental movements in Lebanon using a feminist framework
  • Documenting land-based rituals and practices in Lebanon and the region through women’s stories
