The USAID-funded five year Farmer-to-Farmer Middle East and Northern Africa Program (F2F MENA), will mobilize volunteer technical assistance to help farms and agri-enterprises overcome the technical, managerial, and financial constraints that keep them from improving food safety and quality. Our program objective will be the practical implementation of food safety protocols and quality assurance systems from “field to fork” that will provide greater market access to producers, food processors, and exporters; increase environmental sustainability; and ensure that safer food products reach markets.
The primary objective of this assignment is to conduct a market assessment that will inform future program activities. It will contribute to knowledge generation on the status of the farming and food business in the country in specific sectors and provide objective information to assist F2F in prioritizing its assignments and orienting its implementation, in light of compliance with international quality systems and requirements.
The consultant will participate/conduct the following activities:
Coordinate with the Program and Country Director to plan the market assessment
Review and contribute to drafts of survey (group survey and one-to-one survey)
Participate in the identification of the universe of survey targets
Finalize the questionnaire(s) (survey tool) that will serve to gather all relevant information
Conduct meetings with the selected farmers and processors
Submit reports for the individual visits including his/her observations and recommendations for each site
Identify real and potential sectors where the F2F interventions would impact the most
Submit a final report that includes the survey results and analysis, summarizing his/her observations and recommendations and follow up plan
Deliverables: Final report containing
