Operational Roles and Responsibilities
Guidelines Implementation
1. Follow the guidelines and fully comply with the policies and procedures established for the BTS activities
2. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
3. Comply with biohazard standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents and/or radiation sources in the workplace
Blood Collection
4. Receive and welcome donors according to the guidelines
5. Enter donor’s data and assign numbers to the donation
6. Perform adequate donor selection through an adapted questionnaire (Whole Blood Donor Questionnaire) and referring to the list of medical contraindications to blood donation
7. Collect whole blood from donor and provide post donation care
Blood Processing and Testing
8. Process blood collected into components according to blood transfusion services procedure
9. Perform mandatory tests on blood donations and enter results on log book and software
10. Perform blood grouping according to blood transfusion services procedure manual
11. Label blood products properly
12. Coordinate with the BTS Center Physician/Medical Coordinator MD in case of positive result
13. Store blood products according to BTS procedure manual
Blood Delivery
14. Provide blood products to requestors according to LRC BTS policies and procedures
Other related activities
15. Maintain records and demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are run regularly
16. Identify problems and correct them immediately, log them and report them to the BTS Center Physician and/or Quality Manager
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the established performance specifications
18. Coordinate with the Quality Control Manager to support him/ her to perform QA checks and provide necessary records and documents
19. Participate in continuous medical education courses
20. Coordinate with the Maintenance and Stock Officer in order to ensure appropriate maintenance for all equipment and for the replenishment of the stock of consumables. Submit on periodic basis any required reporting regarding equipment maintenance and consumable stock inventory
21. Coordinate with the Blood Drive Coordinator and participate in blood drive campaigns when requested
Coordinate with the Call Center Operator, if required, in order to help and orient patients to other blood centers
