Data Scientist

Main Role

The Data Scientist will be supporting in analyzing LRC data sets to find opportunities to enhance LRC services and process optimization, and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. The Data Scientist must have strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

• Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes
• Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data
• Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
• Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms
• Combine models through ensemble modeling
• Present information using data visualization techniques
• Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges
• Select features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques
• Mine data using state-of-the-art methods
• Extend company’s data with third party sources of information when needed
• Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
• Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis
• Do ad-hoc analysis and present results in a clear manner
• Create automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance

Function Specific Experience

• Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst
• Experience in data mining
• Knowledge of R, SQL and Python; familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ is an asset
• Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks
• Analytical mind and business acumen
• Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra)
• Problem-solving aptitude
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.
• Experience analyzing data from third party providers: Google Analytics, Site Catalyst, Coremetrics, Adwords, Crimson Hexagon, Facebook Insights, etc.
• Experience with distributed data/computing tools: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Gurobi, MySQL, etc.
• Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders

Industry Related Experience

• Previous experience in working with NGOs is a plus
