Main Role
The Midwife provides the antenatal and postnatal care to female beneficiaries throughout their pregnancy. He/She provides advice on family planning and reproductive health matters, as well as provides mother and child care/education.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Operational Roles and Responsibilities
- Examine and monitor pregnant beneficiaries, provide necessary treatments and prescriptions as identified necessary and based on protocols set by HQ
- Provide information, emotional support and reassurance to women and their partners
- Offer support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death
- Give support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breastfeeding, bathing, etc.
- Prepare beneficiaries for labor, childbirth and postpartum
- Identify high risk pregnancies or complications that require medical assistance and make referrals to relevant Physicians and other medical specialists
- Offer family planning services and preconception care to women who wish to get pregnant
- Identify and refer a beneficiary case which LRC is not able to treat through the set internal and external referral processes
- Respect beneficiary information confidentiality terms in line with set standards and policies
- Safely keep all midwifery-related beneficiary records and history
- Liaise with other health and social care professionals in the MMU to ensure continuity of care
- Conduct educational lectures on the reproductive health program in the community.
- Write monthly narrative and statistical reports (final and progress) to be submitted to the Project Coordinator
- Update weekly the Project Coordinator on the project outcomes.
