Operational Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist with organizing and planning mobile blood drives in addition to performing stock on hand
- Receive donor in a friendly way and process him/her according to blood transfusion services procedure
- Enter donor demographic data and assign numbers to donors and donations
- Perform adequate donor selection through an adapted questionnaire and referring to list of medical contraindications to blood donation
- Collect whole blood from donor and give post donation care
- Process blood collected into components according to blood transfusion services procedure
- Perform mandatory tests on blood donations and enter results on log book and software
- Perform blood grouping on blood unit according to blood transfusion services procedure manual
- Put adequate labeling on blood products
- Store and deliver blood products according to blood transfusion services procedure manual
- Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratories established performance specifications
- Follow continuous medical education program through active participation in educational programs of the department
- Handle potential hazardous chemical and biological agents and/or radiation sources in the workplace by complying with biohazard standards
- Adapt to new technology and methods to enhance program effectiveness.
