Community Kitchen Coordinator

The Opportunity:

  • Reporting to the Program Manager, the Community Kitchen Coordinator, will develop, facilitate and implement a Community Kitchen Program that supports & encourages the women to actively attend and participate.
  • The Community Kitchen Coordinator will ensure the kitchen has all necessary supplies, will maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen that meets all health & safety guidelines, provide meals independently for 30+ women when required, and will have strong budgeting and organizational skills to effectively maintain weekly menus and food supply orders while working within the constraints the women themselves experience (i.e. limited food budgets, lack of access to transportation, lack of proper equipment etc.).
  • In addition, the role will include facilitating community activities, providing support & supervision to kitchen volunteers, coordinating and distributing Food Bank orders.
  • The community Kitchen will continue to provide support to the women by taking referrals and completing intake, crisis prevention, intervention & conflict, provide women with one-to-one support and advocacy, assists women moving in and moving out, keeps accurate records, files, log notes and statistical information as per practices/policy and maintains the safety and security of the kitchen.

  • You are a passionate about the work of ending violence against women and children.

  • You have a well-developed understanding of and commitment to anti-oppression work and intersectionality.
  • You are committed to working with women with disabilities and understand working within a harm reduction environment.
  • You support women who choose abstinence, but understand abstinence is just one option for women struggling with substance use.
  • You have significant experience as a frontline support worker working with women affected by violence/abuse, combined with relevant education and or skill-based training.
  • Lived expertise is an asset, as is living in the community in which you work. LUPD strives to hire staff who reflect the person with disabilities and women we serve.

You Also Have:

    • Proven initiative, judgment, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Demonstrated ability to take action in a crisis management environment.
    • Proven ability to develop and maintain rapport with women with disabilities, your co-workers and other stakeholders.
    • Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
    • Proven willingness to roll up your sleeves and support women with disabilities in the ways they ask/need.

Additional Requisites/Assets:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, social work, Human Rights or related field.
    • Experience doing community kitchens and passionate about all aspects of it.
    • A valid First Aid Certificate is required.
    • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an added value.
